Introducing Stream Recaps

The best moments on Twitch happen live, with streamers and their communities experiencing them together. But not everyone can catch every stream and even your most loyal followers aren’t always there for the whole thing.

That’s where clips come in. They capture the moments that make a stream memorable, giving communities a way to relive them, share them, and discover streamers they might not have found otherwise. And now, we’re making it easier for those moments to live beyond the stream itself.

We’re introducing Stream Recaps, a new way for your viewers to catch up on what they missed and relive the best moments, all through clips from your stream. Your followers will see your stream’s best clips right at the top of their feed when they open the mobile app, giving your community an easy way to stay connected even when you’re offline.

Stream Recaps

A Stream Recap is a highlight reel of clips from a livestream, put together for your followers to catch up on what they missed. After each stream, visit your Stream Summary or just click the plus button on your mobile app to select the best clips from the stream and share them with your community through a Stream Recap. By default, clips made by you and your editors are included in the Stream Recap, but you can easily remove, add or edit clips at any point. Ultimately, you are in charge of what gets shared. Your followers can find the Recap in a shelf at the top of their mobile feed. Recaps also live on your channel page for anyone visiting your channel.

Catch Up in a Few Minutes

Clips have always been a way to capture the moments that make a stream memorable, but they don’t always tell you the full story. You might see the highlight but miss the buildup, the follow-up, or the community reaction that made it special. Stream Recaps pull together the best clips from a broadcast so your viewers can catch up on everything that happened, not just one moment, in a couple of minutes.

And if you were there, Stream Recaps give you an easy way to go back and relive some of the moments you enjoyed most.

Keep Your Community Engaged Between Streams

Stream Recaps are built for your followers. After each stream, your Recap shows up in the Recaps shelf at the top of your followers’ mobile feed, so your community can catch up right from their phone. It also lives on your channel page, so anyone visiting your channel can find it anytime.

But Recaps aren’t just for catching up. When your community engages with the clips in your Recap by leaving comments and reacting, it helps you see which moments resonated most. That makes it easier to know which clips are worth sharing beyond Twitch. That engagement can also help Twitch identify clips to recommend to new viewers in places like the Clips and Live feeds, creating more opportunities for new viewers to discover your channel.

That means the moments you create don’t disappear when you end your stream. Your viewers have something to come back to, and your community has another way to stay connected until you go live again.

Make It Yours

You know your stream and community better than we do. Open the Recap editor and you’ll see a filmstrip of your stream’s clips. The ones already in your Recap are up front with a checkmark. Scroll through the rest to find clips you want to add, tap to include them, and remove anything that doesn’t feel right. That way, the Recap represents your stream the way you want it to and how you want your community to see it.

You don’t have to wait until after the stream either. Say “Twitch Clip That” while you’re live and a clip will be created and added to your Recap automatically. Then after the stream, you can fine-tune any clip by cropping it, editing the captions, or adjusting the layout.

Three Twitch mobile screens showing how to review a Stream Recap: the create menu with “Add Clips to your Recap,” a channel home page with a “Your Recap is almost ready” prompt, and a clip-review screen for selecting clips in the Recap.

After your next stream, head to your Stream Summary or tap the plus button on mobile to review your Recap. Make it yours, and give your community an easy way to stay connected until the next one.

And there’s more ahead. We’re investing in more ways for your clips to reach viewers across Twitch, keeping them entertained and your community connected, from Category Pages to Search and more. Later this month, we’ll also be offering a promotion opportunity for Clips shared in Stream Recaps, promoting you on third-party social media to help you reach new audiences on Twitch and beyond.
