The IRL Takeover is here

Join us May 11 - 17 for the IRL Takeover - a week-long celebration of IRL streamers! From mountain skiing, to roadtripping, or camping in your own backyard - you can find it all on Twitch. Check out some of the unique IRL content from your fave IRL streamers, /Maya, /knirpz, /CDawg and more.

What’s on offer this week

We’re featuring hundreds of IRL creators all week long on the IRL Takeover front page shelf, with special IRL events featured on the carousel. What’s more is, you can snag a limited-time chat badge for tuning in! Check out any IRL stream on the shelf from May 11 - May 17 for at least 15+ minutes to unlock a gilded IRL chat badge, available only during IRL Takeover. Want to join the front page shelf as a featured streamer? Simply stream in the IRL category from May 11 - May 17 for a chance to be featured.

You won’t want to miss these scheduled IRL special event streams (all times are PT):

  • /AlveusSanctuary Tour with /Maya - May 11, 12PM PT

A Charity Event for /AlveusSanctuary
On May 11th @ 12PM PT, join us on /Twitch for “Bleed Pawple”, a charity fundraiser for /AlveusSanctuary with /Maya, as she gives chat an IRL tour of Alveus and introduces the adorable Ambassador animals – some which we’ll be bringing to life as emotes, as part of a new Hype Train set!

A Fresh Batch of Hype Train Emotes
We’re excited to be adding our first new Hype Train emote collection of 2026, a series designed by artist /Dionysus1911, the lead artist for Alveus Sanctuary. They’re based on a selection of Alveus Sanctuary Ambassador animals - you can learn more about them here.

Join the IRL Creator Club
If you’re an IRL streamer and you’re not already in the Twitch IRL Creator Club – now is the time to apply! Membership of the IRL Creator Club includes exclusive access to a dedicated Discord server, as well as resources and ways to connect and collaborate with Club members + Twitch Staff. To celebrate IRL Takeover, we’re hosting an educational, IRL-themed webinar with /yoobrandii, /ChaoticGabz and /DinomiteTwins on Wednesday May 13 at 11AM PT. Get involved!

Stream IRL on mobile with ease
We’ve rolled out a few updates to mobile IRL streaming on Twitch to make going live from your phone more seamless. It’s now easier to stay connected with your community thanks to quicker access to chat, activity feed, and moderation tools. You can also multitask while live, your stream continues in picture-in-picture so you can check messages, maps, or notifications without interrupting your broadcast. Plus, with Disconnect Protection coming to mobile, temporary connection drops won’t immediately end your stream, viewers will see a BRB screen for up to 90 seconds while you reconnect.

FAQs

How do I join the Twitch IRL Creator Club?

You’ll need to meet the age requirement and your channel will need to be Affiliate or Partner in good standing. Please complete this application form to be considered as a member.

When will I receive my IRL chat badge?

To unlock the badge, tune in to any stream in the IRL category for at least 15+ minutes from Monday May 11th 10:00AM PT - Sunday May 17th 11:59PM PT. The badge will be delivered shortly after completing the watch time criteria.

If you encounter issues with receiving your badge, please contact Twitch Support.

How does the IRL Takeover shelf work?

The shelf uses an algorithm that shows viewers what they are most likely to click on based on their previous viewership. These appearances are not scheduled, so your channel may rotate in and out of this section at random any time you are live.

How do I check if I’m featured on the shelf?

You won’t be able to see yourself on the Recommendation Shelf while live, however you can check if you have been promoted on the Recommendation Shelf on Creator Dashboard > Analytics > Discovery > Views from Twitch > Homepage Recommendations and check Views + Impressions.

How can I be removed from the shelf?

Change from any category under the IRL supercategory to another category to be removed from the shelf.

Guidelines + Safety

Being on the front page shelf might mean you experience more traffic than usual in your streams. To keep yourself and your community safe in the instance of an influx of new viewers, we recommend the following safety settings:

  • AutoMod set to Level 2
  • Email and phone chat verification turned on
  • Followers only mode for at least 10 minutes
  • Shield Mode setup (activate only when needed)

Please review your Content Classification Labels to disclose the content you’re streaming. You can find this setting in your “Edit Stream Info” page. You will still appear on the Recommendation Shelf - however remember, there are some categories and content we do not show on the Recommendation Shelf such as Pools, Hot Tubs, and Beaches & Gambling.

Check out the Twitch Safety Center to learn more about how to keep your stream safe through community guidelines, reporting, moderation, and other information you may be interested in.
