Holiday Cheers Charity Drive

Update on 12/29: The Holiday Cheers Charity Drive ended on 12/28 at midnight. Thanks to everyone who Cheered with #charity, we’ve raised $53,699 for Doctors Without Borders!

As we head into the holiday season, we’re thinking about how much we have to be thankful for, and reflecting on others in need and how we can help. That’s why we’re supporting Doctors Without Borders, creating an incredible opportunity for all of us to do some good in the world while we watch our favorite streamers. The Holiday Cheers Charity Drive makes it easy for you to help support a great cause by making it a part of the conversation in chat.

Cheer with #charity to support!

From Thursday Dec 22 — December 28, every time you Cheer, just add the hashtag #charity to your Cheer message, and Twitch will make a donation to Doctors Without Borders, who helps save lives by providing medical services in humanitarian crises. Twitch will donate $2.00 for every 1000 bits used in Cheers that include the #charity hashtag. The streamer still gets the same share of the Bits as they normally do.

About Doctors Without Borders

Every year, Doctors Without Borders provides emergency medical care to millions of people caught in crisis in nearly 70 countries around the world. They provide assistance when catastrophic events — such as armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, or natural disasters — overwhelm local health systems. They also assist people who face discrimination or neglect from their local health systems or when populations are otherwise excluded from health care.

The Twitch Community can be an incredible force for good. You’ve shown that year after year as charity streams have raised millions for worthy causes. As you spread good Cheer in chat, you can help support Doctors Without Borders just by adding #charity.

FAQ

Q. Do small amounts of Bits count?

Yes! All Bits with the #charity hashtag will be counted towards the total.

Q. Do Cheermotes count? Can I use Kappa1000, Kreygasm5000, or Swiftrage10000 and add #charity?

Yes! All Bits, including the new Cheermotes with the #charity hashtag will be counted towards the total.

Q. Does this take away from what the streamer receives from the Cheer?

No. The streamer whose channel you’re Cheering in still gets the same share of the Bits as they normally do. Twitch is making the donation based on the number of Bits you use with the hashtag.
