Two-Factor Authentication Now Available on Your Twitch Account

Beef up your account security by enabling two-factor authentication.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) requires two different methods of verification to log in to your Twitch account: your password and your mobile phone. Each time you log in, you’ll enter your password and a unique code that we’ll send to your mobile phone. If your password is somehow compromised, your account will be inaccessible without the code we send your phone.

2FA is 100% voluntary — if you don’t enable it, you’ll still be able to log in with your password as usual. However, if you’d like some additional protection, we encourage you to enable 2FA.

If you’ve never set up two-factor authentication before, here’s how it works:

  1. Go to the Security section in Settings.

  2. Select Enable Two-Factor Authentication.

  3. Enter your Twitch password.

  4. Enter your phone number.

  5. Enter the verification code you receive via text message or Authy (if you are an Authy user).

EDIT: If you’re using an app that uses our old authentication flow like El Gato or Wirecast, you will need to append your 2FA token to your Password when signing in. For instance, if your password is mypassword and the 2FA token is 123456, you would sign in with mypassword123456.

Twitch has partnered with Authy to provide you with secure two-factor authentication that’s easy to use and doesn’t require any text messages. Simply add Twitch to your Authy account, and you’ll receive a push notification with your verification code rather than a text message that come with fees from your mobile carrier. Authy allows you to bypass those potential fees and manage all your two-factor authenticated sites in one place.

EDIT 2**:** We’ve have heard feedback from the community on “Why Authy?” In addition to giving you an easier way to login with 2FA, Authy offers the following competitive benefits:

  • Multi-device support: you can use Twitch 2FA across many devices (including your desktop with a Chrome plugin). This not only means you can login securely from whatever device is most convenient at the time, but also if you lose a device, you’re not completely locked out. You can still login from another device and disable that lost one easily.

  • Full customer support: Authy provides 24x7x365 support for Twitch users. If you encounter problems (e.g., changing the phone number you use with 2FA), there is customer support to help you out.

Don’t have Authy? Go here to download the Authy app for all your devices.

Setting up two-factor authentication should take less than five minutes and doesn’t need to be updated unless you get a new mobile phone number. If you need more assistance, please consult our Authy FAQ or Installation Guide.
