Experiment with Advertising on Partner Channels

Starting today, you may begin to see a notice on Partner channels when an advertisement can’t be loaded. This message is dismissible and will only last the length of the advertisement(s) you didn’t see. This is the first in a series of experiments on partner monetization based on direct partner feedback.

If you have an ad blocking extension installed, please consider whitelisting channels you watch the most. It will make a big difference to the broadcaster and help ensure they can continue producing the content you enjoy. Here’s a short guide on how to do this for some common extensions.

If you’re seeing this message without any ad blocking or script blocking extensions installed, it may be due to network connectivity issues to ad providers. Please report notices received in error to our support team so we can try fix any bugs. We’ll also be collecting automated data about campaigns we’re running.

Broadcasters know their audience best, so participation in this program is completely optional. Partners may opt-in and out of this experiment at any time from their Channel & Video settings. This is the first stage of the experiment, and the response from broadcasters and viewers is critical to determining our next steps.

If you experience one of the the occasional problematic remnant ads that don’t respect volume settings, fail to finish properly, run too long without an option to skip, etc., please report them so they can be removed from rotation.

Last year, we invested in our own Sales team to sell higher-quality direct ads that are more relevant and respect common user experience guidelines. This has drastically decreased the percentage of problem ads while increasing removal speed, but they still sometimes slip through.

We appreciate your patience and help as we continue refining the ad processes. Problem ads don’t pay extra, are an annoyance to remove, and provide a poor user experience. We won’t stop until they are eradicated.

At the same time, we’re continuing to explore and work on alternative monetization methods such as subscriptions, tips, and the next generation of products. We want to give all broadcasters several options to make sharing gameplay experiences a viable career.

Thank you for being part of the Twitch community. We appreciate every ounce of help you give to keep your favorite broadcasters producing hours of free content.
