Twitch to Broadcast New York Videogame Critics Circle Awards

Many of the top video game critics in New York will be coming together next Tuesday for the 3rd Annual New York Videogame Critics Circle Awards ceremony. This is a festive event where game developers from around the world will be in attendance in hopes of hearing their games selected as winner of one of many illustrious awards as voted on by the Circle. Can’t make it to Brooklyn? No problem, the event will be exclusively streamed on Twitch.

Speaking of exclusive, there will also be a very special video surprise for attendees and viewers. That’s all I can say. Seriously, because that’s all I know, but I did get them to commit to the word ‘exclusive.’

  • Date: February 11th

  • Time: 4:30pm PT/7:30pm ET

  • Channel: twitch.tv/nyugamecenter/

  • Location: New York University’s Pfizer Auditorium, 5 Metrotech Center in Brooklyn

The show will be written and hosted by The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’s Emmy Award-winning scribe, Daniel Radosh with this year’s musical guest being Future Folk (Jay from the band is also the voice of Lester in this year’s multi-category nominee, Grand Theft Auto V).

It’s worth noting that presenting the Herman Melville Award for Best Writing in a Videogame is Rick Moody, the lauded author of “The Ice Storm” and “Four Fingers of Death.” They also have Handsome Dick Manitoba, the lead singer from the seminal punk band The Dictators, presenting the Tin Pan Alley Award for Best Music.

Prior to the award ceremony, an esteemed panel of critics will be onstage to discuss the Year in Games. These writers include Harold Goldberg, a contributor to the New York Times, Evan Narcisse from Kotaku, Jill Scharr from Tom’s Guide, Mike Futter from Game Informer, Chelsea Stark from Mashable and Jeff Bakalar from CNET/404. All fine folk if you ever meet them in person (one of which has an impressive Zelda tattoo on their back).

To top things off, there will be an After Party with free libations outside the Pfizer Auditorium where fans and guests can mingle with game developers and members of The Circle.

And for unspecial, non-musical guest, I will be hanging around.
