Charitystream Raises Funds for Orphaned Children

It’s well established that the Twitch community is very charitable, and has donated to many great causes. Awesome Games Done Quick is a fantastic example of this, and just this past weekend, Polygon’s Phil Kollar organized a broadcast that raised $13,000 for the Boston’s One Fund. What sets Charitystream apart, however, is their contributors get to see the direct result of their donations, as broadcasters and game developers Daniel Matros (DICE) and Tim Kjell (Rovio) go direct to the orphanages they intend to help and document the results.

Having broadcasted every weekday, Matros and Kjell raised over $1,500 through their Twitch channel. They then dipped into their personal funds for airfare and accommodations to Johannesburg, South Africa, where they supplied a small orphanage with much needed supplies.

Charitystream goes live every weekday for 3 hours, so be sure to follow their channel to receive alerts. They’re already halfway to their next goal, which will directly benefit an orphanage in Haiti.
